Summary
I’ll make this simple. It’s another loop.

Onibaku
Another loop but don’t take this episode lightly. Besides the fact that haruhi was HOT <3 this episode was artistic genius! The most obvious form of symbolism shown of course the airplane. What does an airplane symbolize you ask? Here are a few:
~Wanting something to happen quickly.
~Changing your priorities.
~Getting started on something.
The airplane may have symbolized how Haruhi feels as though she wants “something to happen” or she wants a certain event to take place during the summer. It could also apply to Kyon in a sense that he has to get his “priorities straight” and “get started” in finishing the endless loop.
Then there was the scene towards the end where it shows the movie of a couple on a beach then the woman suddenly turns into Haruhi. It felt like Haruhi whispering to the guy in the movie was actually Haruhi trying to give a hint to what she wants. Judging by how engrossed she was in the movie it suggests she wants a summer romance, which is exactly the “something” she wants to happen. At least in my opinion.
P.S. There was a certain rumor going around that there will be 6 endless eight episodes in all because of a screw up on Kadokawa’s part. I however, agree that it is just a marketing strategy to pull funds from the fans. Read the full rumor here.

hm… if the rumor were right… the disappearance would be something in like Season 3!? =/
Interesting. I’ve read your comment over at my blog and the post over at your blog.
While I’m dearly wishing that it’s not 6 full episodes of Endless Eight (although we’re already on 5 episodes), it can be like what you’ve said.
However, seeing that we’re only entitled with 10 episodes of new content, spending 6 on repeated content (albeit different animation) is too much of a luxury.
Darky might be right at this rate. We might only get to see disappearance in season 3.
Having read the light novel, I found this episode total genius. A work of art like some mentioned; but maybe I’m really just a “Yuki-fanboy”
And I also agree with most on this, we don’t need 6 episodes of Endless Eight. 4 would be enough.
Also, I thought the rebroadcast of the anime would consist of 28 Episodes, therefore leaving 14 new episodes (source), but I’ve read from many other sources that there would be only 12 new episodes. Can anyone confirm?
Well the first season had 14 episodes total and we do know that there are 28 episodes so simple subtraction would dictate that there will be 14 new episodes. So far, 5 have aired already. Well.. if you would call those “new” episodes T_T
