Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 – Episode 24 Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 5

Summary
Continuing with the movie filming, Yuki directs the SOS brigade to where they can find stray cats. Haruhi is upset that they couldn’t get a black cat but decides to just go with it. She names the cat Shamisen. According to Haruhi, Shamisen is a talking cat that assumes the role of Yuki’s familiar. When Haruhi dismisses the gang for the day, they are all suprised when Shamisen speaks to Kyon, in a very deep and masculine voice I might add.

Everyone is getting ready for the cultural festival when Tsuruya and Mikuru pop up in Kyon’s class. They hand Kyon a coupon for Mikuru’s soba shop and Tsuruya steps aside. Mikuru, having difficulty conveying her thoughts without sounding hateful, asks Kyon not to trust Koizumi too much. Later, Yuki explains that it is because both of their organizations theories are conflicted with the existence of the other.

Wierd stuff keeps happening, but the filming is completed. All that is left is to edit the video clips and they are done. The problem is, they do not know how to and they only have one night to do so. Both Haruhi and Kyon fall asleep. When they wake up, Kyon is suprised to see that the film editing had been completed by someone.

They then show us what happened in the 2nd SOS outing with only Kyon and Haruhi present. Kyon tells Haruhi everything he knows about the supernatural and about the other three SOS members but Haruhi doesn’t believe him and storms off. She of course, waits for him outside.

Sweet Jesus that was a long summary! What surprised me the most was how much content this one episode had. I have to say, Shamisen was really cute despite the big voice that he had. It kind of makes you wonder if half of his body is made of vocal chords.

I was particularly happy with this episode because it shed a little more light on Mikuru’s theory on Haruhi. Season 1 did give a general description of what her theory was but this time they explained that Haruhi is merely someone who can sense things that were naturally there and that the time travelers are there to stop Haruhi from discovering them. An example would be like someone discovering and describing the laws of physics thousands of years before Isaac Newton did. This would mean Mikuru’s role is to make sure that the natural genius (Haruhi) does not reveal things before they are actually discovered (Mikuru Beam anyone?). Another thing that hit me was the rivalry between Mikuru’s and Koizumi’s firms. I never realized that their firms were in “bloody” battles with each other and other firms.

One other thing that bothered me was when Yuki said “There is no guarantee that what I say is true. At least for you.” What does she mean by that? What this would imply is that what she says to Kyon specifically can or cannot be true. This also means that she could actually be manipulating him through what she tells him. She did say that her job was to only observe, but how can we tell that’s the truth? What if she really is manipulating him by telling him small things like that. My brain hurts, I don’t want to think about it too much. You guys have any thoughts on what she meant? Also, who do you think finished editing the movie?

I rather liked the director this episode. I also liked the animation style and delivery of this episode, especially in the final scene. The final scene shed some light on what happened that day because the anime left it to be desired in the first season. I dunno if it’s just me but I like angry Haruhi so much better than the always smiling Haruhi. Overall, great episode. It’s just too bad that this will be the last new episode. At least, that’s what we think. Who knows, they may suprise us yet again.

Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 – Episode 23 Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 4

Summary
With Tsuruya and company in tow, the SOS brigade starts filming again. As the filming progresses Haruhi puts yet another contact on Mikuru. Yet again, Yuki attacks Mikuru and removes the contact. The contact was not exactly the same as the Mikuru beam but instead, was more of a slicing type of beam. Haruhi then asks for a scene where Mikuru is to get forced into the water by her friends. Bravely or seemingly unwilling to disobey Haruhi, Mikuru agrees. Haruhi now wants to film a love scene with Koizumi and Mikuru. Tsuruya requests to visit her house since it is nearby and it looks like Mikuru will catch a cold. Haruhi asks if they can film there and Tsuruya agrees.

Now inside the Mansion-like house of Tsuruya, the SOS brigade continues filming. Haruhi then directs the kissing scene and asks Koizumi and Mikuru to kiss. They were just about to when Kyon stops them. He noticed that something is not right with Mikuru. He then realized that someone put alcohol in her drink. Tsuruya apologizes and says she was told that her acting would improve. Haruhi then lightly bonks Mikuru with her mini megaphone in order to wake her up. Kyon is not pleased. He begins an arguement with Haruhi that eventually leads to Kyon raising his fist to her but Koizumi stopped him just in time. The next day, rather than being angry, Haruhi seems depressed and Koizumi asks him to make up with Haruhi. Though Kyon does not want to, he goes to Haruhi and says “we are going to make this movie a success”. Haruhi smiles and says “of course”.

Now THAT was a good episode. There were so many story elements that it was hard to take screenies. First of all, the difference between Kyon and the other characters stood out in this episode. Everyone who knows, what Haruhi is seems to be in fear of her. Koizumi shows his fear through his actions, Mikuru agrees to do anything Haruhi wants and even Tsuruya seems to put up a slightly fake smile around Haruhi in Tsuruya’s house. I’m not saying that she knows what Haruhi is, but she does seem a little biased.

In terms of the Kyon-Haruhi pairing, if your into that sort of thing, i’d say this was a golden episode (note there was no opening sequence). Kyon usually makes snappy comments at Haruhi occasionally but for the most part gives in. This episode, Kyon actually had a fight with Haruhi. Personally, i’m a firm believer in the saying “fighting is a sign of closeness” unless of course it is against someone you really hate but that’s another point altogether. Instead of her subconsciousness going wild and destroying things in closed space, she was depressed. She probably knew she did wrong and was thinking about a way to apologize to Kyon. Maybe that’s why they showed a short clip of her holding her hair in a ponytail like what Kyon is into right?

Towards the end, Koizumi had mentioned that Haruhi may have been given the godlike powers by the “god” rather than her being the god herself. My personal theory is that Haruhi is not the god, rather, it is actually Kyon is the “god”. Now if you have read the novel then I will tell you why I think Kyon is the “god”, if not skip this paragraph. SPOILER: There was a girl Kyon was interested in during his middle school days. In the later volumes you may have read that she had Haruhi’s powers at that time. Why is it that it is girl’s that Kyon is close to? Why Kyon? He is the key to the powers, or owner of the powers altogether.

Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 – Episode 22 Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 3

Summary
The movie filming continues as Mikuru is constantly being manipulated by Haruhi. Against the curious eyes of the bystanders, even Kyon gets embarrassed. Haruhi orders Mikuru to shoot lasers out of her eyes a.k.a the Mikuru Beam. Mikuru says that it is impossible so Haruhi punishes her by lightly tapping her head with the paper made megaphone. Kyon forcibly grabs her to stop her from hitting Mikuru. She then tells Kyon that he does’nt know how to take a joke. Haruhi then teaches Mikuru the pose needed to do a successful Mikuru beam. When the time comes to film the Mikuru beam, Mikuru musters the strength to say “Mikuru Beam” and out came a flash of light from her eye. Yuki blocks the flash of light from hitting Kyon, and tackles Mikuru. After Yuki gets off of Mikuru, they notice that Mikuru lost her contact lens. Kyon asks if Yuki saw where it went and she said know. Kyon knows this is a lie and says nothing. Haruhi leaves to change Mikuru’s outfit and the three left behind strike up the conversation as to what was all that about. It seems Haruhi’s thoughts turned into reality and the Mikuru Beam became real.

The filming for the day finishes and Haruhi decides to film again the next day (Sunday). The SOS brigade, Kyon’s friends, and Tsuruya show up the next day to continue filming the movie. Haruhi is furious as to why Mikuru called in sick. Haruhi goes to pick her up. When she comes back, she has Mikuru in tow. Mikuru tells Kyon that she was “bitten” by Yuki to make it so that she cannot fire the Mikuru beam anymore.

If you were to watch episode 00, you will notice that the movie did show a flash of light when Mikuru said “Mikuru Beam”. They just elaborated what really happened in this episode. If you watched episode 00 you will also see other unexplained things such as Shamisen the cat, and the scene where Koizumi seems to be using esper powers. Though I am a little depressed that they probably won’t show the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, I guess this arc does make up for it, even if it’s only a little bit.

Another thing that comes to mind when watching this episode is Yuki. Again Yuki with her kick-a$$ powers coming to save the day again. My overall favorite character in the show did have a good amount of screen time and boy did those burns look painful. Then again nothing as painful as what Araragi went through recently (referring to Bakemonogatari ep 08). All in all, great episode. I can’t wait for Tsuruya to show some importance in the story. The first season didn’t do too much for her :P

Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 – Episode 21 Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 2

Summary
With the items necessary for filming questionable procured, the start of the real work is at hand. Haruhi forces a scantily clad waitress uniform on Mikuru and Yuki shows up with a witch’s hat and robe on. These of which will be the basis of Haruhi’s film. Haruhi presents the roles of the film and reveals that Mikuru is a battle waitress from the future, koizumi is an esper, and Yuki is an evil alien witch.

They start off with going to the sponsors to film the commercials for the film. Haruhi, of course, shows her disregard for Mikuru’s chastity and makes her film the entire thing in the bunny suit :) They then move on to filming the battle scene with Mikuru and Yuki, from which we can see Haruhi’s superior directing skills (lol).

It’s been a while since I blogged since I was smacked in the face with quizzes, exams, and wars(utopia). With that over it’s time to start blogging again. So now we are seeing the build up to episode 00. Though it’s great to see new footage, it all felt kind of like the trolling we had during endless eight. We see almost the same thing we’ve seen before but at a different angle. At least this had bonus footage.

It was slightly refreshing to see Mikuru being the object of Haruhi’s mischief as it has been a while. I also got to see witch Yuki, which was my favorite get-up in season one. As I might have said in my previous post, I am starting to miss the melancholic Haruhi but the up-beat Haruhi is fine too :)

Haruhi Suzumiya 2009 – Episode 20 Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 1

Summary
Starts off with a sports festival, of which the SOS brigade dominated thanks to Yuki’s super speed. We soon find out that the cultural festival is coming up and while Kyon and Haruhi’s class is doing nothing, Haruhi has plans for her SOS brigade. She reveals that she wants to create a movie starring Mikuru. When she mentions procuring a brand new video camera, Mikuru hesitates and asks to be excused for fear that Haruhi might put Mikuru’s purity in peril. Haruhi then says that she will not do anything with Mikuru’s body and will just bring her along to show the “sponsors” the main character of the film. To procure a video camera and toys for the movie, Kyon realizes that Haruhi is only pointing to Mikuru. It is probably because Mikuru will somehow have to shoulder the burden of paying for the items eventually.

Finally, an episode that wasn’t endless eight. Watching this episode and looking at how many new episodes are left, I have come to realize that the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya arc may not even be coming as advertised on New-Type magazine. Kyoani and Kadokawa did not officially announce the airing of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 which would make sense because the new episodes they are airing right now are actually supposed to have occurred within the first season. You could think of it as if they were completing the first season, so to speak. So this is not officially the second season which would make my Title for the series “Haruhi Suzumiya 2009″ correct! Yay! On the other hand no disappearance.. Boo..

The episode itself was what anyone would have expected from this show. The mood brought me back to the first season and helped in filling the blanks that lead to the cultural festival. I presume they will continue this since this is ” Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi 1″ and we will see the actual filming. It also seems we are on witnessing an evolution in animation for Kyoani. The character’s facial expressions have been quite numerous compared with the original. You can also say that the character’s faces resemble those of K-on. Hey, I’m not complaining ;)

Summary
Another loop…. EXCEPT IT ENDED! In the final scene when Kyon is hit hard with de ja vu, he finally realizes that he hadn’t done his hw this whole time while Haruhi needed something to do. So he invites everyone to his house to complete their summer homework.

So it finally ended. Honestly, I think it would have had a pretty big impact on the audience if they all weren’t already spoiled rotten. I also do agree with other bloggers that doing your hw as the solution does seem a bit too shallow for an arc that they spent WAY too much time on. Again, i’m am not a particular supporter of what they did in this arc nor do I promote it. Four endless eight episodes would have already been pushing it but 8? I suppose only a show as amazing as Haruhi Suzumiya can fail so badly on an arc but still get away with it. With regards to rating the arc, if we were to omit all of the crap in between the first part of the arc and the ending, we here at chiakiproject would like to give this arc a rating of

8 out of 28 gah! T_T
