Sora no Manimani – Episode 1

Summary
We meet a guy named Ooyagi Saku. He is a high schooler that doesn’t have good memories of the town he just moved back into due to a girl named Miihoshi. During their childhood, Miihoshi would drag Saku everywhere at her own pace which eventually lead to Saku getting his arm broken. He enters the school hoping to have a normal, quiet high school life when he meets with Miihoshi at school. He desperately tries to avoid her by any means possible but he is eventually caught. Saku asks her to leave him alone and stop bothering him. Hearing this, Miihoshi gets upset and asks Saku why won’t he remember their cherished memories together. He then elaborates that those “cherished” memories were actually just her dragging him anywhere she wanted to. He then goes on to say that after he got his cast removed, she didn’t go to see him off. Miihoshi then explains that she was also hospitalized and didn’t see him when she got out of the hospital. Saku is now feeling the guilt and apologizes as well as joins the club. There they do their best to try to recruit new members.

I was proven wrong yet again in this season with the coming of this comedy. I actually wonder if “LOL” would be enough to describe the gist of this show. If I were to then compare it to another anime, it would definitely be Nodame Cantabile. Miihoshi’s Quirky but still lovable personality is just too fun to watch. Not to mention Saku’s personality and reactions remind me of Chiaki’s(From Nodame Cantabile) reaction towards Nodame’s sheer stupidity. It also seemed as though people were always jumping on Saku and creeping the hell out of him. Watching Miihoshi chase after Saku was amusing to say the least. I found it great that they could go from a light hearted mood to an emotional/sad mood in an instant. It was even better when they suddenly took the emotional atmosphere and tore it apart in the next instant.

The episode itself was pretty fast paced, not leaving any unused space. As a comedy, they could have stretched the show and end it at when Saku joins the club but I’m not complaining. The show kept me laughing whilst I was watching it and you could even say it left me wanting more? Though it’s not really my style to blog comedy shows such as these (since I like shows with great animation and detail) but I will blog this one anyway. It did, after all, give me a good laugh.
